AVI appoints Investment Analyst in Japan

Asset Value Investors (AVI) has appointed Makiko Shimada as Investment Analyst to support the company’s research and engagement efforts in Japan.
Currently based in Tokyo, Shimada will join a seven-strong investment team in London from March and report to Joe Bauernfreund of AVI.
AVI is the investment manager of both AVI Global Trust (AGT) and AVI Japan Opportunities Trust (AJOT) which employ a balanced approach to shareholder engagement in Japan following the trend towards improved corporate governance in the country. AGT and AJOT have combined assets of JPY61 billion invested in Japan.

Makiko Shimada has been in Tokyo for Goldman Sachs for more than three years
