First responders honored for saving life in Marcy
Today, Assemblywoman, Marianne Buttonschon recognized dozens of first responders at Maynard Fire Department for saving the life of a 27-year-old woman.

MARCY, N.Y. On Tuesday, Assemblywoman Marianne Buttonschon, D-119, recognized dozens of first responders at Maynard Fire Department for saving the life of a 27-year-old woman threatening to jump off a bridge on State Route 291 above the Barge Canal this past May.
The nine emergency agencies that responded to the Oneida 911 call were Kunkel Ambulance, Oneida County Sheriff s Office, New York State Police, Maynard Fire Department, Whitesboro Fire Department, Whitesboro Police Department, Oriskany Fire Department, New York Mills Police Department, and Yorkville Police Department.

Since Otter Tail County began pursuing criminal charges in cases of welfare fraud last year, it has referred 11 cases to law enforcement and three people are facing charges, Otter Tail County commissioners heard during their Tuesday, April 13 meeting.
“We had not been doing that for quite some time,” said county collections officer Crystal Herman. “Some of these crimes are pretty egregious. We’re talking huge dollars, we’re talking misinformation intentionally given to the agency over many years so we felt there was a need to start pursuing those criminally again.”

New York Mills Police are still investigating a two-car crash that happened on Campbell Avenue near Main Street that led to a car catching fire.
Officials say Officer Delong of the New York Mills Police Department was dispatched to the scene just before 4 p.m. Monday for reports of an accident with possible injuries.
Upon arrival the Officer Delong, a civilian and New York Mills Fire Fighter Riopel assisted Cheryl Reed of Utica out of her 2005 Toyota Camry, which was on fire. The three then carried Reed to a neighbor s porch nearby and EMS began evaluating her condition.
