Grotesque 'good luck' lamp from Roman Jerusalem is missing half its face

Just days ago, it was reported that a 2,000-year-old bronze oil lamp in the shape of a grotesque face cut in half was discovered in the City of David. It was believed that the half a lamp was placed in the foundation of a Roman-era building on Pilgrimage Road as part of a ritual burial offering for good luck. Since the oil lamp was in the shape of half a face, it made it quite unique.
And now, it has been reported that the other half of the face may have been found in Budapest, Hungary. After the Israel Antiquities Authority made the announcement last week about the oil lamp, a Hungarian archaeologist named Dr. Gabor Lassanyi contacted them and stated that he may have the matching half that was uncovered back in 2012.

(Worthy News) – Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered a very rare bronze oil lamp that was buried at the foundation of a Roman-era building constructed in Jerusalem’s City of David almost 2,000 years ago, the Times of Israel (ToI) reported last week. The first of its kind discovered in Israel, the lamp is shaped like one half of an ugly, distorted face and may have been buried as an offering of good luck for the residents of the new building.
In a statement last week Wednesday, the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) said the bronze lamp was found at the foundation of a building in the City of David’s Pilgrimage Road, a road which Jewish pilgrims took on their way to the Temple, ToI reports. The lamp is thought to be from the late 1st century or the early 2nd century AD.
