Taipei, March 13 (CNA) The number of people employed in Taiwan s industrial and service sectors at the end of January rose from a month earlier for the eighth consecutive month amid increased hiring due to reduced concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).
Data compiled by the DGBAS showed the number of employees in the country s industrial and service sectors at the end of January rose by 15,000, or 0.18 percent, from a month earlier to about 8.17 million.
The employment number at the end of January also rose by 21,000 or 0.26 percent from a year earlier, stopping a nine-month year-on-year falling streak at a time when manufacturing and hospitality businesses added new job openings, the data indicated.
