Yarmouth, MA Police Sergeant Sean Gannon was shot and killed Thursday, April 12, 2018 while assisting with a warrant being served in Barnstable. Sgt. Gannon and his K-9 Nero were searching the home and located the wanted man in a closet. The man opened fire, killing Sgt. Gannon and wounding Nero.

As of the Register s press deadline, the state Department of Public Health said in its daily report Sunday that Massachusetts had 1,820 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 51 on the Cape and Islands.
Barnstable County had 50 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus Sunday for a total of 9,600 since March.
Dukes County on Martha s Vineyard had no new cases Sunday. The total count to date there is 830. Nantucket County, which has had 1,137 coronavirus cases, had one new case reported Sunday.
State public health officials on Sunday reported one new death related to coronavirus case in Barnstable County. Since March, 377 people with COVID-19 on Cape Cod have died.
WEST YARMOUTH A New Bedford woman is facing a drunken-driving charge after crashing into a parked vehicle in a motel parking lot Thursday.
Police were called to the Cape Sands Inn Motel at 4:48 p.m. for a motor vehicle crash, according to a statement from the Yarmouth Police Department.
Witnesses reported seeing a gray Nissan sports utility vehicle drive into the motel parking lot and strike a parked vehicle. Witnesses said that after the crash the driver ran into a nearby room at the motel, according to the statement.
The driver, Melinda Roberson, 31, of New Bedford, was found in a room, arrested and taken to the Yarmouth Police Department before later being released on bail.
