LUCKNOW - At least 18 people were killed and 10 injured after a speeding truck rammed into an overcrowded double-decker bus in India s northern state of Uttar Pradesh early on Wednesday (July 28), a local official said.
The incident occurred on a highway near Barabanki in central Uttar Pradesh at around 12.45 am, Barabanki Superintendent of Police (SP) Yamuna Prasad told Reuters. The bus was overloaded and had about 150 passengers in it. It was hit by an truck on the highway, Prasad said.

LUCKNOW, India (AP) â A truck struck a group of laborers sleeping under a parked bus on the side of a highway in northern India, killing at least 18 people and injuring 24, police said Wednesday.
The accident occurred overnight in Barabanki, 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) northeast of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state.
Authorities said the bus had broken down while on its route to the northern state of Bihar, prompting the driver to park it on the side of the highway.
The majority of the victims, many of whom were laborers returning home, were sleeping under the double-decker bus when the truck slammed into it.
