AUSTINTOWN The township has promoted two firefighters from inside its ranks. Sam Lucurell and John Ragan both took their oaths this week and were promoted to full-time firefighter and lieutenant, respectively. The need to fill the positions came after a former lieutenant retired. Ragan filled the lieutenant position and then Lucarell, who had been part-time with the township, filled Ragan’s former position. “We have a testing process for both of those positions. They both did well, and the officers met and decided they were the best candidates,” Austintown fire Chief Andy Frost said. The entry-level firefighter salary for Lucurell is $42,638 annually. Ragan will be paid $61,710 as a lieutenant, according to township Administrator Mike Dockry.
