When walking into the Light Rail Studios in the Bayview, it’s not hard to tell which 150-square-foot space in the huge artist warehouse belongs to The Genie.
In the back corner of the second floor, mirrored mylar spills out onto the wooden walkway. Inside, the small music studio is wallpapered in silver and Luis “The Genie” Monterrosa wears a glossy reflective suit to match, his long dreadlocks poking out behind a mask that looks like a cross between recently deceased rapper MF DOOM’s signature faceplate and a cheese grater. Even out into the parking lot, his car interior is draped in sparkling decorations.
