Couple Who Fed Puppies Only Vegan Food Are Banned From Owning Pets, Fined

A couple who fed their two puppies exclusively on a vegan diet have copped more than $6,000 in fines and will no longer be able to own pets.
The Bull-Arab-cross puppies, named Roo and Ula, were found severely malnourished and underweight at the couple s home in Queensland, Australia.
Officers from charity the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) made several visits to the property to investigate reports of animal cruelty.
The dogs, who were being fed chickpeas, quinoa, rice and grains, were found underweight, weak and suffering from several injuries, ABC News reported.
According to a statement of facts from the RSPCA, during a visit  an  inspector  asked to see  what dog food was available and Price showed  food in a pantry which included lentils, rice, pasta, quinoa and grains. All food sighted was indicative of a vegan diet, the statement said. There was a bowl of quinoa which was the same colour as Ula s faeces. There were no dog food or meat products at their property. There were also no water bowls inside or outside of the house for the puppies. Roo was seized from his Cow Bay owners who fed them a vegan diet. He had to be euthanised. Picture: Supplied
An unemployed couple who fed their two dogs a vegan diet which lead to one of them being put down have been banned from owning pets for three years.
When she was confronted by animal welfare inspectors, owner Megan Price accused RSPCA staff of eating murdered animals .
Price and her partner James McKenzie from Cow Bay, north of Port Douglas were also fined $4,500 plus vet costs on Thursday.
The RSPCA seized the malnourished five-month-old dogs, Ula and Roo, in May last year following several weeks of investigations. You eat murdered animals, you will never be like us we are vegans and love animals, McKenzie told the RSPCA staff as they rescued the seriously ill puppies.
