NEW DELHI: Amid a growing chorus over the GST Council meeting not being convened for over seven months, the Union Finance Ministry on Saturday announced that the next meeting of the panel that decides on taxes on goods and services will be held on May 28.
After over a dozen central and state levies such as excise duty, service tax and VAT were subsumed in a nationwide Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017, the Council, headed by Union Finance Minister and including representatives of all states and union territories, was mandated to meet every quarter to deliberate on issues at hand.
NEW DELHI: A Mangalore-based man who brought seven oxygen concentrators with him, as non-declared goods from Saudi Arabia, on an Indigo flight, was held up by customs at the Mangalore airport on May 11.
The concentrators were for charity, and an SOS by his kin and family to the MOS finance helped him release the machines and take them to their destination.
Irfan Khan, 25, got the concentrators from a charity organisation in Saudi Arabia. When he was stalled by the customs at the airport, he first dialled his donors for help. The donors then approached the finance authorities, including MoS Anurag Thakur, in Delhi.

“This is the first large-scale trial to show that adult patients with IBS can achieve an improvement of IBS symptoms with supplementation of HMOs,” wrote scientists from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Glycom A/S, and the University of Gothenburg in

Synopsis
Belagavi saw a nail biting finish, with former minister of state for railways Suresh Angadi’s wife Mangala who contested on a BJP ticket, defeating Congress’s Satish Jarkiholi with a slender margin of about 2,900 votes (final figures yet to arrive). Belagavi was the strong bastion of the BJP for over two decades and Angadi had won the 2019 Lok Sabha election from this seat with over 390,000 margin.
The results of Karnataka bye-elections to three constituencies was a mixed bag for the ruling BJP, as the party lost Maski seat, retained Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency with a thin margin, and wrested Basavakalyan from the Congress with a comfortable margin of over 20,000 votes.
