9 & 10 News March 31, 2021 The fire at Blue Lake Tavern started sometime Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters were still on scene this morning and early this afternoon. They were working today to put out some hot spots and to start looking for a cause, but say it’s not suspicious. The Morton Township fire chief says no one was inside the restaurant when the fire started. Northern Michigan’s news leader spoke Wednesday with the grandson of the couple who built the restaurant back in 1941. “It was huge, it’s a legendary landmark a lot of people had their wedding receptions, bowling banquets, all of the people that owned cottages around the lakes, Blue Lake, the tri-lakes, they would stop at Doyle’s Supper Club on their way to opening their cabin for the weekend,” said Kevin Doyle.
