Mass jab hopes a crucial test for Prayut A vial of AstraZeneca s Covid-19 vaccine with Gen Prayut s name on it. Chanat Katanyu
Despite reassurances from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul that the mass Covid-19 vaccinations for people over 60 and those suffering from seven non-communicable underlying diseases across the country will proceed as scheduled on June 7, scepticism remains strong among many about whether this administration can still be trusted after repeated blunders in the handling of the pandemic.
From the failure to postpone the Songkran long holidays and reluctance to impose travel restrictions which caused the Thong Lor cluster to spread nationwide, to putting all the eggs in one basket by betting on just the locally produced AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine supplemented by Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday gave further assurances that all Thais will receive Covid-19 jabs and warned the media not to sow confusion over the state vaccination programme.
It has been an exceptionally busy 24-36 hours for the regime’s virus “strategy.” Failures, turnarounds and a royal intervention point to a shemozzle. More significantly, they point to a royal/royalist failure and a rescue attempt. The media is reflecting a broader discontent as it refers to the aspects of the vaccine “rollout” as a “fiasco”…

Jab booking app suspended
The government has suspended the vaccine registration app Mor Prom.
The app previously covered registration for vaccinations, follow-ups on the first and second jabs, checks on side effects and vaccinationcertification.
Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said yesterday the Mor Prom (Doctors Ready) app will now handle vaccination follow-ups and certification only.
But Dr Taweesilp said each province should now have its own vaccinationregistration system like those of Bangkok, Phuket and Nonthaburi.
However, no further information has been provided by the CCSA about how those who were not in the elderly group and the group with seven underlying diseases in provinces apart from Bangkok, Phuket and Nonthaburi would be able to register for vaccinations.
