GOP legislatures target critical race theory

  Republican-controlled legislatures in half a dozen states are taking up measures that would ban or limit the teaching of critical race theory in public schools, a new front in the culture wars that is likely to expand far more broadly in the coming years. Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) earlier this year became the first to sign legislation to withhold funding from schools that compel students to adopt viewpoints that are “often found in critical race theory.” The Texas state Senate has passed similar legislation. The Tennessee state House advanced its own version through an education committee this week. And legislators in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Arizona are working on bills that would impact the curriculum in public schools in their own backyards.

Portions of the buildings, which date to the 1920s, are so antiquated that the electricity is shut off during rainstorms so the prisoners aren t electrocuted.  The facility s once-vaunted drug rehab program has a three-month-long waiting list, and the prison is short 75 guards.

UK Rosenberg Law Students Win 1st Place in Diversity Case Competition

(March 16, 2021)  University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law students Shantale Davis and Ashlei McPherson, both first-year law students, placed first in the 2021 Law Student Diversity Virtual Case Competition hosted by Cincinnati-based law firm Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL in partnership with the University of Cincinnati College of Law’s Center for Professional Development. Davis and McPherson took home $3,000 as the first-place team. They competed against students from six other law schools, including the second-place team from Ohio State University s Moritz College of Law and the third-place team from University of Cincinnati College of Law.
