Changes in Monmouth County budget eliminate proposed tax increase for 2021
The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has announced that the 2021 county budget will not, as initially proposed, contain a $6.1 million increase in the tax levy to be paid by the county’s residential and commercial property owners.
On Feb. 11, the commissioners introduced a $453 million budget to fund the operation of the county in 2021. The budget included a tax levy of $317.6 million and represented a $6.1 million increase from the 2020 tax levy of $311.5 million.
The budget was not adopted and professionals in the Finance Department continued to evaluate the projected revenues and appropriations.

TINTON FALLS – After nearly four years of planning, design and construction, a new traffic signal that has been installed at a busy intersection in Tinton Falls has been activated.
The traffic signal was constructed at the intersection of Monmouth County Route 13A (Sycamore Avenue) and Monmouth County Route 51 (Hance Avenue).
Members of the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners held a ceremony at the site on April 22 to mark the signal’s activation.
In addition to constructing the traffic signal, construction crews installed a “Red Signal Ahead” sign, widened Sycamore Avenue to accommodate a dedicated left turn lane for vehicles heading east, completed curb work, milling and pavement resurfacing, upgraded signs and revised street striping along all approaches to the intersection, according to a press release fro

Residents of a Jersey Shore town had a choice on Tuesday: enact a previously approved rent control measure, or opt for a stricter version.
They decided to stick with the former.
Last month, the Asbury Park City Council voted unanimously to cap rent increases at 3.5 percent or the region’s Consumer Price Index as set by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whichever is higher. The decision was in response to a move by the Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition, which had secured enough signatures on a petition to put its own rent control measure to a public vote.
