Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge getting $107.5M replacement

The Monmouth County Commissioners approved a $107.5 million contract to build the long-awaited replacement of the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge.
Richard E. Pierson Construction Co. Inc. of Pilesgrove in Salem County won the contract after submitting the lowest responsible bid of the 10 companies seeking the project.
Virtually all of the costs associated with replacing the bridge, which crosses the Shrewsbury River, came from federal transportation funds, Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone said. The county s share of the project is $47,400.
That s compared with the replacement s overall costs of $131 million, which includes federal grants Monmouth County previously received for permitting and design of the bridge.

According to the Pew Research Center, no matter what your party affiliation, there is equal agreement that citizens should follow what happens in government and politics.
The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan, non-profit 101 year old organization, believes that democratic government depends upon informed and active participation of citizens at all levels of government. The League also believes that it is the government’s responsibility to protect a citizen’s “right to know,” by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records easily accessible. Following these principals might have helped to avoid the recent controversy over our Monmouth County Commissioners salary adjustments.
NEPTUNE - Former New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno is leaving Fulfill, the food bank that feeds 215,000 people in Monmouth and Ocean counties, when her contract expires on May 5.
Guadagno plans to return to Connell Foley, the law firm where she remained a partner after taking the CEO position at Fulfill in May 2019. The departure comes just a month after a public battle with Monmouth County commissioners over federal money.
Guadagno said she was confident the management team she built over her two-year tenure will be able to guide the food bank through the pandemic and the increased need it has brought to the community.

The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners are launching a floodplain management software for 17 towns who are currently participating in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System.
We step back into 2020 for a second here as that s when Monmouth County was awarded a $125,000 New Jersey Department of Community Affairs LEAP Challenge Grant for CRS management software and the Commissioner’s used the grant money, along with $104,000 in CARES Act funding, to acquire the Forerunner’s Floodplain Management Platform, to manage the floodplain compliance and outreach in communities.

The widening of Routes 34 and 537 in Monmouth County as well as updating the traffic signals are just some of the roadwork that has concluded, but the true test of its effectiveness may come around Memorial Day and beyond with more drivers on the road.
