WARREN The city is looking at spending more than $1.55 million on street repairs using money from the 0.5 percent income tax for police, fire and roads.
The tax first was approved in 2016 and renewed last fall.
The original legislation required the city to use $500,000 annually to repair and upgrade city roads that do not receive state or federal matching funds.
City Auditor Vince Flask said the extra $1 million placed in the local road repair budget also is coming from the tax.
“It took the city a while to fill the ranks in the police and fire departments, so we collected funds that were not used,” Flask said.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Cultivate Charlottesville will be giving out free plants this Saturday, May 8. The organization is working to increase food equity through their Spring Seeding Project.
“We are not a food equity city. We have a 17% food insecurity rate which is higher than the state rate of 11%.” Aleen Carey, the Cultivate Charlottesville resource and program director, said.
The goal of Cultivate Charlottesville is to help the region become a place where food is accessible to all through events like the Spring Seedling Project and services they provide that teach students how to garden.

Passing cars honked and mini-American flags fluttered in the wind. It wasn't a post-Independence-Day celebration. The family was remembering a man who died near that intersection eight years ago.
