MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) Less than a day after a West Virginia city approved the formation of a civilian board to review complaints against law enforcement officers, a police union filed suit to halt the process.
The Monongalia-Preston Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 87 filed the lawsuit Wednesday morning, hours after the Morgantown City Council unanimously passed an ordinance creating the Civilian Police Review and Advisory Board, news outlets reported. The vote Tuesday night came after nearly a year of discussion and public meetings.
The nine-member board would provide a prompt and impartial and fair review of misconduct complaints relating to the Morgantown Police Department,” City Manager Kim Haws said Tuesday.

Former Morgantown council candidate pleads guilty to election fraud count By
Former Morgantown City Council candidate Timothy Metz has admitted to falsifying signatures during the 2019 municipal election.
Metz pleaded guilty Thursday in Monongalia County Circuit Court to one felony count of falsely filing a certification of nomination
The Secretary of State’s Office launched the investigation after being notified by Morgantown officials. The investigation found 21 of the 75 required signatures to get on the ballot were fraudulent, including one signature of deceased person.
When Metz withdrew from the election process in March of 2019 he said he had “cut corners.” Metz was indicted by a Mon County Grand Jury in September.
