Voters in 6 school districts deciding $302M in projects Tuesday and that’s not all.
Updated 6:11 PM;
Voters will decide spending proposals in six school districts and choose school board members in about a dozen races this week, one year after the coronavirus pandemic upended the traditional spring election day in New Jersey.
The largest of the school district ballot questions, $168.2 million, is in Clifton, and involves proposed upgrades at all 19 school buildings. Clifton would receive $64.6 million in state aid to partially offset the cost of the project, according to the New Jersey School Boards Association.
School board races on Tuesday include Newark, where students returned to classrooms for the first time in more than a year Monday. Eight candidates are running for four seats on the board, with the proposed $138 million budget for the 2021-22 school year up for approval.
From Staff Reports
March is “Read Across America Month.” To mark the occasion, the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA is sponsoring a contest to promote reading. The contest, for children ages 3 to 13, is offered at sites at where the YMCA provides childcare services, including elementary schools in Haleyville, Buena, Quinton, Collings Lakes, Deerfield, Cleary and Mullica Township. Three schools in Somers Point, charter schools in Millville and Vineland and the YMCA’s preschool are also participating.
Parents were given links to record each book that their child reads or that has been read to them. When parents enter the books in the record they are linked as a chain. The YMCA’s goal is to see how long the chain can grow.
