Montclair Schools Brief: 459 Students Left District; Others Experiencing Irreparable Harm

Frank Rubacky It really is way too easy to criticize the School district. Almost unfair, but… I love the school district’s transparency choices. Page 2 of their budget is an increase of $31,023 in a $136MM budget…because it is for Charter School Tuition. Meanwhile, they file a brief with the court about the substantial legal cost damages they are facing and the COVID related expenses of $1.2MM. But, they chose to highlight Charter School Tuition. You might was well have the BoE members sign the petition for an elected school board. You truly can not make this stuff up. Frank Rubacky

Fourth Ward Councilor David Cummings to Hold Community Meeting with Lackawanna Plaza Developer David Placek

This absolutely sucks. How does Montclair township just let a developer with literal years of planning walk? The 4th ward NEEDS a grocery store. We finally were close and the twnship chased away the only viable plan. Now we are the ones who suffer with not only a disgrace of an abandoned backlot ridiculed with graffiti and garbage, but now we have to wait YEARS again for a plan and approval. Back to square one. Great job Montclair, 4th ward and especially One Greenwood LLC and A Better Lackawanna who are the minority who decided to speak for the majority

(Photo: Nicolas Dufour/Montclair Early Music) MONTCLAIR, NJ A Montclair nonprofit is going medieval on the local music scene – literally. Since forming in 2010, the members of Montclair Early Music (MEM) have been united in their quest to inspire their community with tunes popularized before 1750, largely from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. The group gives its members a chance to jam together on songs that raised the roof centuries ago. Their instruments of choice are likewise anachronistic: sackbuts, crumhorns, lutes, harps, and of course, the ubiquitous recorder.

Judge won t order Montclair teachers to return to in-person instruction in ongoing lawsuit

Judge won’t order Montclair teachers to return to in-person instruction in ongoing lawsuit Updated Feb 12, 2021; , a special resource guide created for parents, students and educators Public school students in Montclair school district will not set foot in a classroom until at least March after a judge denied the board of education’s request for a temporary injunction that would have immediately ordered teachers back in the classroom during the coronavirus pandemic. Judge James Paganelli wrote that the Montclair Board of Education failed to prove that the district’s approximately 6,700 students have suffered “irreparable harm” by receiving remote instruction. The judge went on to say that the district hasn’t proven it has fully complied with the state department of education’s required health and safety standards to reopen schools.
