Sign Up An international firm of architects behind iconic projects such as Toronto International Airport and Dubai’s Emirates Towers has won an £80,000 contract to design a £33million aviation college in Moray. A design team of Canadian-based NORR will lead the Moray Aerospace, Advanced Technology and Innovation Campus (MAATIC) which will work with both the RAF and private partners to support the new fleet of Poseidon submarine hunters being based in Lossiemouth.

Now Moray Council is working with RAF Lossiemouth, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Moray College UHI, The University of the Highlands and Islands, Skills Development Scotland, DYW Moray, NHS Grampian, Boeing and Gordon and MacPhail in efforts to create a more skilled workforce in years to come. The local authority is also looking to recruit a Stem officer on £60,000 per year to continue and accelerate the process of changing the culture around Stem and build bases with various firms. Council depute chief executive Rhona Gunn said the benefits will “be realised” 10-15 years from the beginning of the initiative. Mrs Gunn said: “This workforce will also able to benefit from the opportunities that will arise in the skilled workforce to work remotely allowing the benefits of well paid jobs located elsewhere in the world to be spent locally.

Sign Up Moray Council’s Conservative group have unveiled their main spending priorities for the local authority’s forthcoming budget. The main items highlighted in their proposals are limiting council service price increases and accepting the Scottish Government’s offer to freeze council tax. Meanwhile the Tory group has also pledged investment in education, a new athletics track, a 4G football pitch in Forres, an increase in the road maintenance budget and bringing forward the capital spend on the Foths Bridge replacement.

Sign Up Moray Council has begun the search to find contractors to write the next chapter for some of the region’s most well-known landmarks as part of its “cultural quarter” vision. Grant Lodge, Cooper Park and the Town Hall in Elgin are poised to receive major overhauls as part of the £31million project. Last week the authority committed funding to try and reopen the doors on the historic B-listed landmark as a heritage attraction.
