Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputies raided 10 illegal marijuana grows in the Desert Heights neighborhood of Twentynine Palms Friday and Saturday. Between 8 a.m. Friday and 3:20 p.m. Saturday, deputies served search warrants at locations on Two Mile Road, Bellerue Road, Indian Trail, Morongo Road, Nandina Street, Meldora Avenue, Canyon Road, Rogers Lane, and Giant Rock Avenue. The Sheriff’s Department said more than 10,400 plants (weighing more than six tons) were seized and six arrests were made. There were no weapons or other drugs at any of the locations.

Two Twentynine Palms residents, including a convicted felon, were arrested Friday, February 5, after fleeing from deputies. According to Sheriff’s reports, deputies conducted a parole compliance check on Kevin Aide, 28, around 8 p.m. in the 1000 block of Morongo Road in Twentynine Palms. During the check, Deputies located firearms and ammunition. As a convicted felon, Aide is prohibited from owning firearms and ammunition. Deputies also learned that Aide had an active warrant for his arrest. Aide was detained by Deputies, but managed to escape with the help of Amanda Juarez, 32, of Twentynine Palms. An extensive area check was initiated and around 7 a.m. Friday, February 5, deputies located Aide and Juarez in the open desert near the intersection of Shoshone Valley Road and Winters Road. Kevin Aide was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and for his warrant, was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, and is being held without Bail. Ama
Banning police search for suspect who broke into home, assaulted girl
A search was underway today for a suspect who forced his way into a Banning home and sexually assaulted a girl before one of her family members came to her aid, prompting the assailant to flee.
The attack happened about 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of North Hathaway Street, near Morongo Road, according to the Banning Police Department.
Agency spokeswoman Sol Avila said that the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was home alone when the man broke inside and assaulted her. The suspect was forcibly removed from assaulting the victim by a family member, who arrived home, Avila said.
