By Matt Grossman Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. has administered roughly 5 million Covid-19 vaccinations, the Deerfield, Ill.-based pharmacy company said Tuesday. The figure includes vaccinations given in long-term care facilities, in stores and at dedicated clinics. Walgreens has partnered with the federal government to provide on-site vaccinations at residential facilities for seniors, and said it has completed 60,000 clinics at long-term care facilities. The company said it will receive approximately 1 million Covid-19 vaccine doses this week from Johnson & Johnson, Moderna Inc. and Pfizer Inc. Walgreens said it plans to allow teachers and childcare workers to seek vaccines at Walgreens stores in accordance with recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, and to offer dedicated clinics for those workers.
By Matt Grossman Becton, Dickinson and Co. has acquired GSL Solutions Inc., a privately held company that makes devices to securely store medication. The addition of GSL, headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., will expand Becton Dickinson s offerings to retail pharmacies, with storage that facilities can use to store controlled substances and comply with relevant regulations. GSL makes computerized lockers and cabinets that restrict access to controlled substances and automatically log user activity to comply with laws and regulations.
