MODESTO (CBS13) – There’s a push for a new trial with claims of new evidence nearly 20 years after Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and unborn son.
He was back in court this week to appeal his murder convictions and death sentence. His sister-in-law now says she has evidence that exonerates him.
Janey Peterson says Modesto police ignored a handful of tips and leads in this case, including a burglary across the street from Scott and Laci’s home.

Nearly 17 years after Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and unborn child, his sister-in-law says she has evidence that proves his innocence.
Janey Peterson has claimed police officers ignored leads surrounding the death of Peterson s pregnant wife Laci, which included a burglary across the street from their Modesto, California, home.
She told CBS13: There is no series of circumstances that fits the evidence where he could possibly have done it.

She has carried out her own investigation into the tragedy and revealed a board filled with notes, which she claimed would exonerate her brother-in-law.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) A former Modesto police detective says nothing has changed in his mind in the years since Scott Peterson was convicted by a San Mateo County jury of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and the couple’s unborn son, Connor, in 2004.
CBS 48 Hours took a new look at one of the most famous spousal murder cases in U.S. history on Saturday. The case is back in the news as the California Supreme Court tossed out his death sentence, saying the trial judge made procedural errors.
