Castle Grad is one of the biggest castles in Slovenia. It lies in the northeastern part of the country and is very well connected with both neighbouring countries Austria and Hungary. It is a huge structure. Legend says it has 365 rooms, equal to 365 days of the year in three storeys developed around a central two-level courtyard.  © Tadej Bolta The renovation of castle Grad is a long-term process. It started ten years before our studio got involved and used many diverse approaches to save and stabilize the ruined structure. Our small interventions punctually refresh the existing space and generate new functions.

Spijkerkwartie Terraced Houses / Atelier Kempe Thill

© ULRICH SCHWARZ, BERLIN Ensemble of stripes and walls. The housing project has been realized in the Dutch city of Arnhem. The site lies on the border between the attractive 19 th century neighbourhood Spijkerkwartier and a small community park. The building volume is organized in four parallel stripes, each consisting of four more or less identical terraced houses. © ULRICH SCHWARZ, BERLIN While the north facades are relatively closed, the facades facing south are quite open to allow for a maximum of sunlight to enter the homes. The individual gardens between the stripes are walled to guarantee enough privacy for the inhabitants. The garden walls are designed as an integral part of the architecture. Two clusters of individual storage space for bicycles are located between the stripes of houses.

South Wing Expansion / Alexandros N Tombazis and Associates | AVW Architecture

© Yiorgis Yerolymbos AIA begun its operation in 2001 replacing the favored “Helliniko” Airport designed by Eero Saarinen. Dedicated to commercial air transport, the main terminal’s building enlargement of its footprint to the South, would add approx. 98m to a 354m overall façade and would provide sufficient space for the Extra Schengen operational areas as well as additional concession and back of house space. The client requested to replicate the original architectural design, while upgrading the materials and construction systems technology. The project was the first attempt to extend the terminal beyond its original envelope. This was regarded as an opportunity to    re-assess the building’s façade and morphology and set a new architectural discourse, upgrading the design of the entire complex.
