Sign Up Researchers believe a novel feed treatment could replace the need for antibiotics in poultry units and ultimately help the livestock sector in the fight against superbugs. Scientists at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) have announced promising results in a study of a “novel technology” carried out in partnership with Aga Nanotech and the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL).

Promising results have been reported in the fight against superbug infections on poultry farms, which could have wider implications for human health. Antibiotics are widely used to kill or reduce bacteria in both humans and farmed animals such as chickens. However, excessive use or misuse of antibiotics has led to the development of ‘superbugs’ which are resistant to treatment.
