Over 83% of New Zealanders need to be vaccinated to sufficiently protect our population against Covid-19, finds first-of-its-kind modelling from Te Pūnaha Matatini researchers. However, this estimate drew on data from earlier variants of the virus, so the percentage may need to be even higher now with faster-spreading variants. The modellers say that to avoid deaths and serious illness, public health measures will be needed throughout all of our vaccine rollout. This work is yet to be formally peer reviewed.
