Havering leisure centres have relaunched group exercise classes in line with the government’s roadmap.
The Everyone Active leisure centres run in partnership with Havering Council - Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre, Central Park Leisure Centre and Sapphire Ice - partially reopened on April 12, but exercise classes remained online.
Everyone Active area contract manager Tom Fletcher said he was “delighted” to be able to resume group sessions.
He said: “Aside from the obvious physical benefits, this will be a huge boost for mental health and wellbeing in Havering and comes at an apt time following the start of Mental Health Awareness Week.
Some concerns were raised by the committee, such as issues of flooding and security.
Cllr Ray Best suggested raising the height of the building or constructing a brick wall around it to ward against flooding.
He added: It does concern me about the flood defences. It seemed much more sensible to consider them now rather than waiting for a few years and we end up two foot deep in water and then start to think about them because it s going to cost millions of pounds to rectify.
Simon Thelwell, the council s head of strategic development, said that the building would have a raised ground floor level but said it is up to the Environment Agency to decide if that is sufficient.

The multi-million pound Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre is now ready to be opened to the public.
Everyone Active, the leisure operator which will manage the site in partnership with Havering Council, announced an opening date of January 3.
It did not confirm when asked by the Recorder if this date had been delayed due to the introduction of tier four restrictions in Havering, which mean that leisure centres must be closed.
