PEORIA, Ill. No humans were injured Wednesday morning in a Central Peoria fire, but two pets were killed.
The blaze on N. Renwood was reported around 9:30 to the Peoria Fire Department.
Thick, black smoke was coming from the home when crews arrived.
They tracked the smoke to the kitchen, where the source of the fire was found above the stove. They got it extinguished in about 15 minutes.
A search turned up no residents, but a dog and a cat suffered smoke inhalation and died.
A cause was under investigation, though it was believed to have been accidental.
