Jakarta. The Indonesian government has set a goal of administering 1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine per day starting on Saturday, with the president aiming to double the number by August.
The move to drastically ramp up vaccination came amid a dramatic surge in newly cases, which saw the country pass 20,000 cases in a single day for the first time since the outbreak began.
The record number in daily cases on Thursday puts Indonesia among the top five countries with the highest daily number of cases after Brazil, India, Columbia and Argentina, according to statistics website Worldometer.

JAKARTA, April 6 (Xinhua) Police in the Indonesian province of Central Java said on Tuesday that the National Police s anti-terror squad Densus 88 has arrested six people in the province for alleged involvement in terrorism activities.
The Central Java Police s Chief Ahmad Luthfi told local media in Semarang, Central Java province, that the six people were arrested in separate operations in the province s capital of Semarang, Kudus district, Klaten district and Banyumas district.
He said they were allegedly involved in illegal militant organizations as Jamaah Islamiyah and Jamaah Ansharut Daulah.
Densus 88 is currently conducting further investigations on the case, Luthfi said. Enditem
