COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - As Georgia opens up COVID-19 vaccination eligibility for adults 55 and older Monday, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) is preparing to open its mass vaccination site at the Columbus Civic Center Wednesday.
Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson says he is impressed with GEMA’s efforts.
“It is so much of a larger scale than what we have going now,” Henderson said. “Wow, I mean in a word that is what it is.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Roughly 100 seniors received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday at the Shirley B. Winston Recreation Center in Columbus.
The vaccination clinic was held for senior citizen members of the recreation center who qualified to receive a dose in the Phase 1A+ group.
The West Central Health Department had help administering the vaccine from Columbus Fire & EMS and the National Guard helped direct traffic. Seniors who received a dose of the vaccine said the process went smoothly.
Between the time Ada County Commissioners announced that they were nominating Raul Labrador to the Central District Health Board and when they confirmed the nomination, commissioners received over 3,200 emails.
KTVB requested all emails sent to the commissioners between Jan. 13, when they announced Labrador s nomination, and Jan. 18 when the commissioners interviewed Dr. Sky Blue, a local doctor and epidemiologist. The Central District Health Board voted 2-1 to nominate Labrador to the vacant seat for Ada County. On Friday, over 500 emails were released to KTVB.
County commissioners nominate someone for their county seats on the health board and commissioners from the rest of the district vote to appoint them. Commissioners voted 9-3 to approve Labrador s nomination.
There will now be email confirmations sent out weekly to those who have registered, updating people where they are in the vaccination registration process.

In the five days of COVID-19 vaccination held in Telangana from January 16, as many as 1.10 lakh healthcare workers (HCWs) have been administered the first dose of the vaccine. The target was 1.71 lakh.
A total of 88 minor cases of Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI) have been reported from various parts of the State. Two HCWs who received the vaccine died and Central labs have launched investigation to find out the cause of deaths.
