(WTVM) - As Georgia opens up COVID-19 vaccination eligibility for adults 55 and older Monday, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) is preparing to open its mass vaccination site at the Columbus Civic Center Wednesday. Henry-Clayton Section of the National Council of Negro Women hosting COVID-19 virtual event

The free event will be held on Feb. 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will include several features from the Centers for Disease Control, state agencies and leadership from Clayton and Henry counties. The forum will include a video created by the Stockbridge High School health class titled “Together We Can Beat COVID-19” followed by a question and answer session. The goal of the event, officials from the council said, is to educate the African American communities in Henry and Clayton counties on the COVID-19 vaccination process. Success! (WTVM) - Over 600 residents in the Chattahoochee Valley received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Pine Mountain Tuesday. A vaccination clinic as held at Callaway Gardens. The West Central Health District only planned to administer roughly 500 vaccinations, but ended up vaccinating 620 people. The clinic was held near the Robin Lake Beach area, which is typically closed this time of year. Multiple lanes allowed people getting their shot to be in and out of the process in less than half an hour. Dr. Beverly Townsend said it’s her goal to vaccinate as many Georgians as possible, but with large vaccination clinics like the one in Pine Mountain. The challenge is estimating how many doses to draw so that none go to waste.
