The Winthrop Maine Historical Society plans to host author Douglas Rooks, in his talk about remarkable Mainer Albert Beliveau from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8. The society’s regular monthly meeting is to follow.
Beliveau was the youngest county attorney in Maine when he was elected in Oxford County in 1914, and the first Franco-American ever to hold the office.

AUGUSTA In a Thursday vote, the State of Maine Senate unanimously confirmed Justice Valerie Stanfill as Maine’s next Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, according to a news release. The Senate’s unanimous confirmation vote followed.
The Maine Senate has confirmed a veteran district court judge as the new chief justice of the state’s highest court. Justice Valerie Stanfill will take over as chief of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and oversee operations in the Maine Judicial Branch.
