“I am very excited for the sounds of the Box Lunch Revue to once again fill the air of York City,” Mayor Michael Helfrich said. “I am really looking forward to the return of York’s traditional arts event and market, YorkFest, an event I haven’t missed for 20 years.”

Third public forum on citywide surveillance proposal slated for Tuesday
York Dispatch
A third public forum to discuss a proposed citywide surveillance system in York City will take place Tuesday evening.
The forum is a part of a feasibility study for the proposal, which has raised concerns from some city residents and civil rights groups. The event is slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene s York City campus, 350 Chestnut St.
The forum will be led by Montez Parker, a consultant who was hired by Better York, a local nonprofit organization. Better York, the city and the York County District Attorney s Office raised more than $30,000 to fund the study, which is expected to be completed by mid-June.
The city has declined to return Swartz to active duty. The White Rose Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police filed a grievance demanding Swartz be reinstated with full back pay, according to court records. And that s what Tuesday s arbitration hearing was about.
Floyd was killed by then-Officer Derek Chauvin, who placed his knee on Floyd s neck for about 9 minutes in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. A jury this month convicted Chauvin of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter; sentencing is set for June 25, according to The Associated Press.
Swartz maintains he didn t reenact or make fun of Floyd s death, and a three-officer internal trial board cleared him of that and two related allegations last summer.
8 Can t Wait: York City Police brass say they re making reforms to build community trust
York Dispatch
Nine months after thousands of Yorkers joined nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody, York City’s top cop touted his department’s compliance with 8 Can’t Wait, a set of best practices cited by police reformers. The York City Police Department is proud to say that all eight recommended policy items have been formally adopted and are now written into the police department’s policies, York City Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow said in a March news release.
However, the organization behind 8 Can’t Wait says York City stands at three out of the eight as it reviews the updated policy.

Trail towns: These remnants of generations past were built on the backs of railway commerce, and for the better half of the 21st century were destinations largely forgotten other than by locals and weekend warriors.
That was until the pandemic forced everyone to head outside. It is one subset of tourism that has seen a boom, said Chrissy Tobias, communications specialist for the York County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Trail towns have been able to capitalize on outdoor activities.
With a record-number of event cancellations and postponements, trail towns and hiking trails were one of the lone bright spots last year, she said.
