Deardorff to retire as chief of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services

Deputy Chief Bill Sleeger Jr. will be named acting chief later this month. York Daily Record Chad Deardorff announced his retirement as chief of the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, according to a news release from York Mayor Michael Helfrich on Wednesday. Deardorff spent the past two years as chief, capping off a 26-year career with the department. Deputy Chief William Sleeger Jr. will be appointed acting chief on March 26, the release states. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents and visitors of the City of York. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with some of the best Firefighters this profession has ever seen, Deardorff said in the news release. “I am beyond proud to have been the leader of such a talented and dedicated group of individuals that make the City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services the best department in the state.”
