(JTA) When actor Mark Ruffalo apologized on Monday for posts that “suggested Israel is committing ‘genocide,’” it wasn’t clear what comments of his own he was speaking about.
But he drew attention to a loaded word that has leapt into public discourse in the past two weeks, during and after the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
Jonathan Pollard Urges “Dual Loyalty” And Spying For Israel
Jonathan Pollard, who as a civilian intelligence analyst for the U.S. Navy in the 1980s was found guilty of spying for Israel and served 30 years in prison, not only has no regrets for his action but urges other American Jews to follow in his footsteps.
Now a resident of Israel, which he considers his real “home,”
Pollard was interviewed by the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom (March 25, 2021). He said, “The bottom line on this charge of dual loyalty is, I’m sorry, we’re Jews, and if we’re Jews we will always have dual loyalty.” Pollard said Jews were deluding themselves if they thought of America as their home. He suggested that he would counsel a young Jewish American working in an American security agency to spy for Israel, as he did.

Israeli soldiers serving in the Old City of Hebron in the West Bank were dispatched the day before Lag Ba’omer, a week and a half ago, on a security mission. They were tasked with guarding a pile of plywood boards.
The mission was carried out in three stages: assisting Jewish settlers in transporting the plywood, which was later to be set alight at a traditional Lag Ba’omer bonfire; guarding the boards for about 20 hours – after they were dumped by settlers onto land owned by the Amro family, against the family’s wishes; and representing the settlers in contacts with the family and conveying the settlers’ demand that they be able to use the land for the bonfire.

How I stopped ignoring NGO Monitor and started fighting back

Around a decade ago, a new Israeli organization appeared out of nowhere. It had a name that sounded like a piece of medical equipment: NGO Monitor. The organization was founded by a Bar Ilan professor named Gerald Steinberg, as part of a right-wing think tank led by Netanyahu confidant Dore Gold. Since its establishment, Steinberg and NGO Monitor have been working tirelessly to dry out the funding of Israeli, Palestinian, and international human rights and peace groups.
