The vote for approval of House Bill 8259 was unanimous, with all 235 members present at the plenary session declaring “ayes” during the roll call balloting.
To be known as the “Handog sa mga Bayaning Lumaban Kontra COVID-190 Act” (Gift to Heroes who Fought Against COVID-19 Act) , HB 8259 consolidated six legislative measures proposing to extend to doctors, nurses and others working in allied medical fields tax incentives for their efforts in protecting their countrymen against the COVID 19 pandemic.
Deputy Speaker and 1PACMAN Partylist Rep. Michael Romero noted that he filed his bill several months before COVID-19 wrought havoc to public health. His proposal, HB 984, was originally meant for medical practitioners who render free professional services to the indigent.

Sacramento Bee 1/29/2021 Michael McGough, The Sacramento Bee
Jan. 28 California is weeks into a mass vaccination campaign to bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, administering tens of thousands of shots a day.
The California Department of Public Health on its vaccine tracker reported Thursday that providers have administered 2,893,493 out of about 4.73 million doses that have been distributed to hospital systems and local health offices, an increase by 163,231 from the total reported Wednesday. About 178,000 additional doses have been ordered but not yet shipped, CDPH says.
The state reported increases of about 150,000 from Monday to Tuesday and 143,000 from Tuesday to Wednesday. It remains unclear how much of the growth comes from recent data reporting improvements as opposed to shots actually being injected.

With the stroke of a pen, President Biden brought nearly half a century of environmental justice activism to its culmination yesterday.
Biden signed an executive order that promises a governmentwide approach to the disproportionate pollution burdens faced by many communities of color. But many advocates say Biden s success on confronting environmental justice will be judged on how the order is implemented.
