Two dialysis patients living in Wicklow have welcomed changes to the Covid-19 Vaccine Allocation Strategy which will see them receive their vaccinations earlier than expected. Last week, both men told this newspaper how their condition left them vulnerable and they feared that if they caught Covid-19, it would prove fatal. Initially, dialysis patients were included in Cohort 7 for the vaccination roll-out, meaning they were unlikely to receive the vaccine until some time after the summer. However, the National Immunisation Advisory Council, in conjunction with the Department of Health, recommended revising the Vaccine Allocation Strategy. The National Public Health Emergency Team endorsed the recommendations which have now been approved by Government.
