PROVIDENCE With a lawyer prone on the floor, in the well of the courtroom, Providence police Sgt. Joseph Hanley put on a handcuffing demonstration Friday morning.
He demonstrated what he describes as “compliance strikes” on his lawyer’s partner, Michael Prew, who once played fullback for the University of Rhode Island.
Hanley is accused of kicking and punching a man who was in handcuffs during an arrest on Tell Street in April 2020.
The defendant told the court that the man, Rishod Gore, had resisted efforts to maneuver him for a search.
The demonstration, with jackets off, came on the fifth day of Hanley s trial before Judge Brian Goldman in District Court, Providence.
