Dubbed LSVs for short, the vehicles are known to slow traffic. The tourists who come down here and rent them. They cruise with them for the most part, Jarman said. The majority of the LSVs we re seeing and unfortunately having problems with are from tourists.
He also said there are six businesses on the Beach that rent them that came together last year to create an updated list of safety regulations for their customers.
Jarman said that was an effort to do something before the local government had to step in.
The businesses safety plan was then adopted by the Panama City Beach City Council on July 9, 2020. It includes year-round rules that state registered drivers must wear an armband bearing the name of the rental company; registered drivers are the only person allowed to operate the vehicles; and customers who commit traffic violations can be forced to surrender their vehicles to local law enforcement.
