The 8th is the first independently made documentary about the triumphant referendum campaign led by a group of women including Ailbhe Smyth and Andrea Horan to repeal the Eighth Amendment and change Ireland’s abortion laws after a 35-year long struggle.
“We came together as three Irish women working in documentary filmmaking with a keen interest in the subject - we had all grown up in Ireland under the shadow of The 8th Amendment,” the trio explained when discussing how the three-way collaboration first came about.

The Irish Angus Cattle Society hosted their inaugural Roscrea bull sale on Wednesday with buyers in short supply.
In total, 23 of the 30 bulls catalogued were offered for sale with a mere 10 reaching their reserve.
Prices rose to €2,950 with average sale price resting at €2,350.
It must be noted that first-time sales often take a few years to get established and although this year was tough, next year could be a different story.

In previous years, May has been a good month for Angus bull sales with many dairy buyers securing bulls for work straight away. This spring, however, seen buyers secure bulls much earlier than usual which meant bulls sales in May, particularly in the southern part of the country are suffering.

The annual conference, which is hosted by Cork Education and Training Board, normally sees hundreds of Irish students, as well as students from foreign countries enter into a series of gripping debates on issues of pressing global importance.
This year’s event, however, which would have been held in City Hall, was canceled due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.
