INDIANA BOROUGH COUNCIL APPROVES APPLICATION FOR WALKWORKS GRANT

The Voice of Indiana County INDIANA BOROUGH COUNCIL APPROVES APPLICATION FOR WALKWORKS GRANT By Hometown2 Indiana Borough Council last night approved an application for a $20,000 Walkworks grant. The money would be used for planning purposes, and borough manager Michael Foote said that the borough may want to work with two other entities and combine their grants. In other business, the borough approved a motion to move to a hybrid meeting style starting with June’s meetings.  Two concerns were brought up with the idea.  One would be a concern if Coronavirus cases spike once again.  The other concern is how to get the current meeting room up ready for hybrid meetings with getting a screen in to show those taking part virtually, and to have appropriate camera and audio equipment set up for the meeting room itself.

INDIANA BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSED FATE OF FUTURE OUTDOOR EVENTS

Indiana, PA WCCS AM1160 & 101.1FM Apr 6, 2021 8:45 PM During Tuesday night’s meeting, some members of Indiana Borough Council gave their opinion about holding outdoor events in the borough. Outdoor events from the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival to the annual Lucy Donnelly Holiday Parade were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  As restrictions on outdoor gatherings eased, borough manager Michael Foote wanted guidance on how events should be held.  Borough Council Vice President Gerald Smith stated the apparent majority opinion of allowing the events go on provided event organizers can enforce Covid-19 protocols. To that end, Borough Council approved event applications and open container waivers for both Downtown Indiana’s upcoming 3rd Thursday celebrations at IRMC Park and the Delaney Chevrolet Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival on May 29th, which is set to be held on Philadelphia Street between 9th and 7th Streets to help with social distancing.
