Fusing expansive psychedelia with evocative roots rock accents, Maybird are originally from Rochester, New York. The group consists of singer/songwriter Josh Netsky, drummer Adam Netsky and guitarist Sam Snyder. In 2013, they released an ambitious independent debut record, Down & Under, which caught the ear of producer Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells), who signed them to his label 30th Century Records. Throwaway Style is a monthly column dedicated to examining all aspects of the Northwest music scene. Whether it’s a new artist making waves, headlines affecting local talent, or reflecting on some of the music that’s been a foundation in our region; this space celebrates everything happening in the Northwest region, the first Thursday of every new month on KEXP.org.
ILLFIGHTYOUTOO by ILLFIGHTYOU
When Tacoma’s favorite rap heathens ILLFIGHTYOU first bum-rushed the scene in the early 2010s, music journalists far beyond the hills, industrial stretches, and marinas of the City of Destiny were referring to the trio as the next Odd Future. Anarchic, irreverent, often crass, and mostly hysterical, Khris P, UglyFrank, and GLENN (formerly known as EvergreenOne) weren’t just compared to the collective whose motto was “kill people, burn shit, fuck school” based on musical and ly

PHILADELPHIA (Jan. 12, 2021) Scientists at The Wistar Institute have created an advanced humanized immune system mouse model that allows them to examine resistance to immune checkpoint blockade therapies in melanoma. It has revealed a central role for mast cells. These findings were published today in the journal
Nature Communications.
Checkpoint inhibitors revolutionized therapeutic options for advanced melanoma. However, only a fraction of patients respond to this treatment and some relapse due to reemergence of therapy-resistant lesions. To better understand why some cancers do not respond or become resistant to checkpoint therapies, we need more preclinical models that mimic the human tumor immune environment, said Rajasekharan Somasundaram, Ph.D., a member of The Wistar Institute Melanoma Research Center, who is the first and corresponding author of the paper.
Dec 22, 2020
We won’t soon forget 2020. Though many of us would probably like to. The pandemic still claims an absurd number of lives daily. The Black Lives Matter protests mobilized citizens all over the world. A polarizing election season ripples still into the new year.
Musicians saw their worlds turned upside down. Just as low-royalty paying streaming services have come to dominate how artists are able to get their music to listeners the artists were forced to cancel tours, the only real way they make money. Some artists tackled the complexities that the year brought, others looked to nature, or looked inside as they, like the rest of us, were all forced to stay home. Let’s hope that 2021 provides an opportunity for these artists to get back on the road and bring their voices to the people. We sure can use it! And they can use your support. Purchasing an album or merch right now can make a real difference to the artists you hear on The Dean’s List.
