Wonder walk? Sure. (Jeff Edwards | Patch)
BEDFORD, NY The pages of Wonder Walkers unfold as wonder walkers young and old explore the children s book and the lakeside trail in Bedford Hills Memorial Park.
Kids are often told to turn off the television, put away the video games and read a book or get some fresh air. The Bedford Free Library is offering the chance to do both at the same time.
The story walk lasts the length of a tall tale or a short stroll depending on one s perspective. Each stop along the wooded trail is marked by a page in the book illustrated by Micha Archer. Just as her oil and collage artistic interpretation brings the story of two curious kids setting out on a wonder walk to life, the wildflowers, lily pads and busy honey bees make it seem as if the book is breaking free from the bounds of the page.

For the past year, the US Army Corps of Engineers Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center has been responding to the pandemic by installing Story Walks along the Cape Cod Canal.
Park Ranger Samantha Gray said that when the pandemic hit last spring, the visitor centerâs programming became limited. The Story Walks began as a way to continue to engage families as they traversed along the canal.
The stories have been stretched out along a series of wooden posts, one page per post.
Last summer, a total of four stories were featured between July and October.
Ms. Gray said that the current story, Micha Archerâs âWonder Walkers,â is the second of the season. From mid-April through mid-May Eileen Spinelliâs âOne Earthâ was featured, to tie into Earth Day.
