Saturday Bantering: Jays Bits

There isn’t much for
Blue Jays news yet today. Of course, as soon as I hit publish, stuff will happen.
Mike Wilner asked @tangotiger some questions about
Lourdes Gurriel’s throw last night. The cool thing was he caught it within 2 feet of where he let it go on the throw. So totally flatfooted, he threw it 259 feet, leaving his hand at 85 MPH and hitting Danny Jansen’s glove without a bounce.
Hitting the target without getting moving towards the plate before throwing is something else.
He caught it 261 from home and released it 259. I should look, as I d like to know where this 2 feet of exchange distance ranks in terms of smallest we ve ever recorded. Bo Jackson-esque, minus ~50 feet! Tangotiger (@tangotiger) May 8, 2021

In the bottom of the tenth:
Alejandro Kirk was the runner on second. Davis pinch-run to end the ninth, I’d have left Davis in the game and put Kirk in Grichuk’s spot. As it was, Kirk didn’t move up on a wild pitch. As it worked, Semien ground out to third not allowing Kirk to move up. Cavan watched strike three. And Bo Bichette, after thinking he was walked on a pitch at the top of the zone, chased a pitch below the strike zone. If Davis was in, he possibly could have stole thi

Game one into the 2021 season and the Blue Jays are undefeated and in first place. Life is good. Finally, the familiar sounds and sights of baseball are back in our lives, and not a moment too soon.
It was a bit of a nail-biter near the end, but the Blue Jays edged out an Opening Day victory against the New York Yankees 3-2. An overall solid performance for the first regular season look at Toronto’s 26-man roster.
Aside from one egregious oversight (which will be addressed below), the Blue Jays played textbook baseball to secure the victory in Yankee Stadium. They played great defence, they received great pitching from the starter and the bullpen, and the Jays got just enough offense to squeak out a win.
