Victorville Daily Press The Pine Fire burning near Piñon Hills grew to 450 acres and destroyed at least one structure Wednesday night as hundreds of firefighters from multiple agencies worked  into the evening to strengthen containment lines, officials said. More than 200 firefighters were still working on the fire as of Thursday morning. Firefighters are once again battling high temperatures, low relative humidity, gusty winds with extremely dry vegetation, authorities said. Based on yesterday s observed fire activity and weather, the potential for significant fire growth still exists. Temperatures in the area are expected to peak in the high 80s with 10 to 15 mph winds in the afternoon and gusts of up to 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

California firefighters worked through the night into early Tuesday to tackle a pair of wildfires threatening people s homes. Live aerial video footage broadcast by KABC-TV showed flames raging along a ridge-line at the edge of an affluent beach-front neighborhood located between Santa Monica and Malibu about 18 miles (30 km) west of downtown Los Angeles. Initially, a mandatory evacuation was ordered for about 200 homes in the Pacific Palisades community, as ground teams and helicopters worked on putting out hot spots and carving a containment line around the fire zone s perimeter.

MOBILE HOME BURNS IN JOSHUA TREE

No one was injured when a mobile home caught fire in Joshua Tree Wednesday morning. County Fire Battalion Chief Mike McClintock said crews from Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, and Yucca Mesa were called to the 6100 block of Valley View about 10:15 a.m. where they found smoke showing from a double-wide mobile home. Firefighters found a room and its contents on fire, with flames extending into the attic space above. The blaze was knocked down in about 15 minutes. McClintock said the home was under renovation at the time of the fire, and the cause appears to be accidental. A mobile home under renovation was damaged by fire in Joshua Tree Wednesday.

A Costa Mesa man who said he was looking for a place to sleep crashed his vehicle into the Joshua Tree court house Sunday. According to the California Highway Patrol, Warren Baugh, 33, intentionally drove his silver Ford Freestyle into the front door of the court house sometime Sunday. He then left his car there and walked over to the adjacent CHP office, where he was found at 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning. Other than saying he was looking for a place to sleep, Baugh refused to answer any questions about why he drove into the court house. Warren Baugh was arrested for investigation of felony vandalism, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000. Anyone with information about the crash should call the CHP at 760-366-3707.
