This school year has offered a number of challenges for students, parents and teachers alike as school districts across the nation struggled to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of a worldwide pandemic.
Despite those challenges, students and teachers pushed on navigating remote learning, pandemic safety protocols and a heavy dose of surrealism to close out a successful year for the Class of 2021.
Some area students have reached above and beyond, rising to the top of their classes as valedictorian and salutatorian, and will be honored during their schools respective graduation ceremonies.
Visitors of the General George Patton Museum of Leadership on Fort Knox will be given a glimpse into the lives of World War II-era soldiers Saturday as the museum unveils the new World War II barracks exhibit.
Located outside of the museum building, the exhibit includes a restored and authentic barracks building from WWII, along with period-accurate details of the living quarters for trainees during the war.
According to Mike Martin, director of fundraising for the museum, the barracks exhibit is a project that is about 10 years in the making.
Retired Col. Mike Weaver led an effort to relocate and restore the barracks. Using a team of volunteers, the building was transported across Fort Knox and restoration efforts took place for over two years to restore the building to its original condition.

The Irish welcome the 13th-ranked Florida State Seminoles into town for a three game series that will be aired nationally on the ACC Network.
Head coach Link Jarrett will be going up against his alma mater this weekend and his former teammate in Seminoles head coach Mike Martin, Jr.
Jarrett and Martin, Jr. were teammates for two seasons, including the 1994 season when the Seminoles made it to the College World Series.
Florida State owns a 19-9 record over the Irish but holds just a slim 5-4 margin in games played at Notre Dame.
