CALGARY The United Conservative Party is insisting the group is on the same page after a marathon caucus meeting ended with the expulsion of two MLAs. But one of those MLAs, Todd Loewen, tells CTV News that s not the case and he still believes the party is heading down the wrong path. There s definitely a divide in caucus, the Central Peace-Notley representative said Friday. There s definitely different viewpoints on how the government has performed and especially how the leader has performed. This is just a situation where the premier shot the messenger. The party voted to remove both Loewen and southern Alberta MLA Drew Barnes.

EDMONTON – Premier Jason Kenney’s United Conservative caucus has voted to turf out two of their own for challenging the leader.
Backbencher Todd Loewen was ejected after publicly announcing earlier in the day the party is adrift and out of touch under Kenney and that the premier must quit before things spiral further.

EDMONTON Hours after Todd Loewen, a northern Alberta United Conservative, called on Premier Jason Kenney to resign, his colleagues ejected him from the caucus, along with Drew Barnes, another maverick MLA, from Medicine Hat.
The drama began in the early hours Thursday, when Loewen, a veteran backbencher, posted a letter to Facebook that argued “many Albertans, including myself, no longer have confidence in your (Kenney’s) leadership.”
