Johnson’s Brace, Reid’s First Career Goal Lead No. 1 Clemson to Victory
CLEMSON, S.C. The first brace of Callum Johnson’s collegiate career, along with Isaiah Reid’s first goal as a Tiger, secured No. 1 Clemson a 3-1 victory over Syracuse on Sunday night at Historic Riggs Field. Clemson improves to 9-2-1 on the season following tonight’s result, while Syracuse drops to 1-5-3.
“I think our players came with the right mindset, which was to compete, and they competed against a team that was ready to compete in Syracuse,” said head coach Mike Noonan. “I was very proud of the players. Obviously, we got different players on the score-sheet, which is good to see. It was a good start for the guys.”
PINEVILLE, N.C. In its lone exhibition before entering the spring season, Clemson fell, 1-0, to North Carolina at CSA OrthoCarolina Sportsplex on Saturday afternoon. I saw that we played well and it was a really good exercise [for our team], said head coach Mike Noonan after the match. We had to deal with some adversity and I thought the character of the team was excellent although the result was not. Clemson will now set its sights on its spring season opener against Syracuse under the lights of Historic Riggs Field on March 7 at 5 p.m.

Until Thursday, D.C. United had not found itself in the top 10 of the MLS draft in seven years.
One pick was apparently not enough, so after taking Clemson attacker Kimarni Smith with its own selection at No. 4, United traded with Atlanta for the fifth choice and added Wake Forest defender Michael DeShields.
United did not relinquish much to acquire the additional first-rounder: $125,000 in financial considerations, known as general allocation money, spread over two seasons. It also swapped spots in the second round, dropping one place to No. 32 overall.
Three Tigers Selected in First Round of 2021 MLS SuperDraft
Clemson, S.C. It was a historic day for the Clemson men’s soccer program, as Philip Mayaka (#3), Kimarni Smith (#4) and Justin Malou (#27) were all taken in the opening round of Thursday’s 2021 MLS SuperDraft. Today’s draft marked the first time in program history that three Clemson players were selected in the first round, in addition to it also being the first time two Tigers were taken within the draft’s top-five picks.
During Head Coach Mike Noonan’s 11-year tenure at the helm of Clemson’s program, the Tigers have had 17 players selected in the annual MLS SuperDraft, with seven of those players having been drafted during the past three seasons.
