Steve Koch honored as the Good As Gold Distinguished Volunteer

The other finalist for this year’s award was Sara-Ann Rosen. Elizabeth Ribarsky of Springfield, associate professor of communication at UIS, was honored with the Star Staff Award. Ribarsky has chaired the annual Illinois Humane Trivia Night and in two years, she raised an additional $25,000 for the organization with this event. Reagan Weichold of Chatham was honored with the Youth Volunteer Award. She was nominated by the Animal Protective League.  Weichold is a mentor for the APL’s Junior Volunteer Program.  Other finalists included Tyler Lancaster and Audrey Lupton. Twenty volunteers were also honored with the Heart of Gold Award. Individual recipients were: Dennis Ahlberg, Anne Anderson, Stacey Austin, Jim Barr, Sandy Bellatti, Sally Cadagin, Becky Gabany, Paula Harris, Dorothy Hart, William G. Holland, DeeDee McCarty, Allison Montney, Traci Moore, Kristie Parkins, Megan Philpot, Renate Selby, Teressa Shelton, Kate Ward and Laura Winkelmann.

Tigers Topple Top-Ranked Pittsburgh, Earn Bid Into 2020 NCAA Tournament

CLEMSON, S.C. The No. 4 Clemson men’s soccer team (13-3-2) defeated the No. 1 Pittsburgh Panthers (13-3-0) by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday night at Historic Riggs Field to secure the ACC’s automatic bid into the 2020 NCAA Tournament. Clemson earned its eleventh all-time victory against a top-ranked opponent following tonight’s result, with three coming during the 2020-21 season. Clemson is set to make its 33rd all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and its seventh across the last eight seasons. “Obviously, this means we get the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will probably be the No. 1 seed in the tournament, which is valuable,” said Clemson Head Coach Mike Noonan. “But more importantly, we got a win in front of our home fans and closed out the season the right way.”

The No. 4 Clemson men’s soccer team will welcome the top-ranked Pittsburgh to Historic Riggs Field as the two sides are set to meet on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m. for a chance to win the ACC’s automatic bid into the 2020 NCAA Tournament. Attendance is free for the 1,000 permitted spectators at Historic Riggs Field, and face coverings must be worn at all times unless eating or drinking. The top-5 match is set to be broadcast on ACCN starting at 7 p.m. as Dalen Cuff and Angela Hucles call the action. Saturday’s match will feature the winners of the ACC’s Atlantic and Coastal Divisions from the 2020-21 season. Clemson earned the right to host this match after winning the 2020 ACC Championship. Since a team must be deemed the winner of Saturday’s match, penalty kicks will be utilized if the match is tied after double-overtime. The men’s 2020 NCAA Tournament selection show will take place on Monday, April 19 at noon on NCAA.com.

Clemson Falls at Louisville, 2-1, in Regular-Season Finale

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  Clemson men’s soccer (12-3-2) fell to Louisville (5-8-1) by a final score of 2-1 in its regular-season finale Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Tigers finish the regular season atop the ACC’s Atlantic Division and will host top-ranked Pittsburgh in a match on April 17 for a chance to secure the conference’s automatic bid into the 2020 NCAA tournament. “We were second best tonight to an inspired Louisville team,” reflected Mike Noonan, Clemson’s head coach. “We will use this week to regroup and get ready to play an excellent Pittsburgh team next week”
