The blue wave hit later than expected, but with enough strength to force a reordering of global financial markets. Victories in US Senate run-off elections in Georgia held on January 5, which handed the Democratic party control of Congress to add to the presidency, jolted investors into overhauling their portfolios in anticipation of the beefed-up fiscal stimulus promised by US president-elect Joe Biden who detailed his US$1.9tn plan on Thursday.

Another longtime runner, Mike Sewell, finished second in the half marathon. He is shown winning the Rehoboth 5K in 2016.
Martin Rodriguez of Selbyville ran 2:43:02 to win the virtual Rehoboth Marathon, averaging 6:13 per mile on a point-to-point course with a 17 mph tailwind. Martin won by 41 minutes over the next finisher. Local Elizabeth Gerritt of Lewes was 15th in 4:22:44, while Jason Langley of Milford ran 4:27:50 to finish 18th. Recent Cape graduate Melanie McCloy of Lewes ran 4:28:22 to finish 19th. McCloy, 21, was once a part of a nationally ranked two-mile relay team at Beacon Middle School with teammates Logan Shuttleworth, Zoe Callard and Olivia Brozefsky. This week, as school wraps up and the holiday vacation begins, presents are under the tree, stockings are hung, but things are sure different from the norm. Very few races were held this fall and almost none this past summer. The Seashore Striders were fortunate enough to host the Seashore Classic half marathon/5K and the Great Pumpkin 5K in October, the Pumpkin Pie 5K in November and the Run with Santa 5K in December. The Striders raised money for a local family that lost their home to a fire, and collected canned goods for a local food drive.
